Wavin’ Flag song was written in 2008 by Somali-Canadian artist K’naan. The song was released in 2009 (the album Troubadour).
Coca-Cola company picked the song for their 2010 FIFA World Cup Advertisement program. It was retitled as “Wavin’ Flag (The Celebration Mix)” and some parts of lyrics was removed. The reason is violence. The original lyrics didn’t let people enjoy the cola. Check yourself. Some original lines and the original song:
but violent prone poor people zone
out of the darkness
among the hardest survive
(so we struggling) fighting to eat
and this part also wasn’t funny at all..
so many wars (sadent) in scores
bring us promises
leaving us poor
i heard them say
love is the way
love is the answer
thats what they say
but look how they treat us
make us believers
we fight there battes
then they deceive us
try to control us
they couldn’t hold us
So Coca Cola decided that they really need another song with the same chorus… and here we are ![]()
